Ferreira confident for UIM F2 season opener

John Moore on 15th February 2021

While Europe is still gripped by the pandemic and Portugal is still under lockdown, Paulo Ferreira, the president of the Portuguese Powerboat Federation is staying positive.

If all goes to plan, his country will host the opening rounds of the 2021 UIM F2 World Championship.

Vila Velha de Ródão will act as the season curtain raiser over the weekend of June 4-6 and Ribadouro will play host to the second round a week later.

The Editor with Paulo Ferreira in Vila Velha de Ródão last year.

I asked Ferreira today just how confident he was of the events going ahead this season:

After we hosted two of the three rounds successfully last year, the Portuguese Powerboat Federation will not give up on launching the F2 World Championship in 2021.

Those two rounds were held in Vila Velha de Ródão at the beginning of October last year and the President pointed out to me:

If I can remind you, last year’s competition was also determined by the current situation, protocols were followed to guarantee everyone’s safety.

Having attended the races in Portugal last season, the new normal was certainly evident which included gold standard PCR testing for everyone involved with the event.

The enthusiastic Ferreira concluded with this message:

Our job is to make sure that everyone who is involved in these events will respect the existing safety procedures, so every driver can look forward to the rounds taking place in Portugal as much as we are.

This will be a double celebration of powerboating and we hope to see everyone back in 2021.
